A Creative Conversation: Free Arts Marketing Tools

by selena on June 16, 2009

Every arts organization wants to engage with new audiences on a limited budget. What’s the solution? Free buzz! At this CC we learned how to promote our organizations by attracting new traffic to our websites, establishing a multi-platform online presence, and engaging our patrons with marketing promotions that deliver results, all at very little cost to our organizations. Experienced practitioners in the field shared what has worked for their nonprofit clients in the past and what could help us expand our own organization’s online outreach efforts.

Cynthia Lugo, Media Strategist, AD Lubow Arts Marketing:
Cynthia showed us how to get free advertising and increase our orgs’ rankings in Google search results with Google Adwords. Cynthia, an experienced Adwords professional, walked us through the Google Grants process, including how to select keywords and successfully optimize a campaign. Check out her PowerPoint slides from the presentation below…

Michelle Paul, Business Development Manager, Patron Technology:
Facebook’s growing popularity is inescapable, and more and more arts organizations have started to get involved with social networking and social media in the last few months. Michelle gave us a broad overview of the options for arts organizations (and other businesses) on Facebook, and some essential tips about what our orgs should be doing.

Gillian Fallon, Marketing Manager, Brooklyn Academy of Music:
Gillian told us about BAM’s successful experiences with email marketing, Facebook, YouTube, flicker, Del.icous, RSS feeds and other online social networking tools as well as how to negotiate and maintain institutional branding while developing an effective online voice.
