Arts and the Economic Crisis Symposium Review & Notes

by erin on November 13, 2009

This past Saturday I was fortunate to make it down to Princeton University to attend “The Arts and the Economic Crisis” Symposium, program details here: http://www.princeton.edu/arts/crisis/program/index.xml

It was so pleasing to see other ELNYAns in the audience – shout outs to Patrice Miller and Aliza Greenberg! If anyone else was there, let us know.
There were definitely some highlights – moments of tension, moments of a-ha, and moments of inspiration.  During the last panel, when Peter Sellars pointed out that its not an economic crisis that we are facing, but a humanity crisis, I knew that this wasn’t just another panel of interest, but an important evening of compelling thoughts, statistics, anecdotes, concerns and comforts.
I have included a link to my notes here:  The Arts and the Economic Crisis
Unfortunately, I missed the first panel, but I’m planning on asking if they have a recording of the simulcast they made available.  I don’t believe my notes will convey the complete experience I had, but hopefully, someone who reads it will find something interesting or thought provoking.
As always, comments welcome and please let me know if something doesn’t make sense and you need clarification.
