GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Minority Fellowship in Artistic Administration aims to increase the diversity of HSDC’s artistic staff while providing a professional development opportunity for an arts administration professional to learn skills related to company management, dance touring, and artistic planning. The Fellowship runs from September 2010 through June 2011 and will provide a stipend of $2,000 per month.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Participate in weekly artistic planning and production meetings
•Participate in review and evaluation of proposals from prospective choreographers and dancers
•Research touring prospects domestically and internationally, and make recommendations to Company Manager and Artistic Administrator regarding strategy
•Attend regional and national booking conferences with Company Manager and Artistic Administrator to help HSDC develop relationships with domestic and international presenters and festivals
•Develop a company management and artistic planning handbook for HSDC
•Maintain performances and repertoire database with information about HSDC and HS2 works and performances
•Assist Company Manager in procuring and tracking information about attendance at all HSDC and HS2 performances and outreach activities
•In the second half of the fellowship, act as Company Manager when HSDC and HS2 perform in the Chicagoland area
•Contribute research and support to Dancer Health and Wellness program
•Provide information to HSDC departments about past and future performances
•Manage HSDC calendar and send weekly calendar updates to HSDC artists and staff
•Monitor artistic budgets for non-production expenses such as artistic fees and travel-related expenses
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have a college degree or equivalent experience, as well as one year of experience with a performing arts organization, which may include internships. Applicants should possess strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, including both verbal and written communication. Applicant should have literacy in a Microsoft Office environment, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant must have a valid drivers license, a valid passport and authorization to work in the US, and ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
