*ONE ARM AND A LEG*
Everyday, we lose something. Everday, we receive.
ONE ARM AND A LEG is a two-part play inspired by a Yasnuari Kawabata story about sensuality and sacrifice, communication and distance, giving and receiving. A devised work combining dance and theater, the piece explores things we give and receive to one another, cultural translation, and communication in places of passage. What can be said in the spaces between cultures and words, with our bodies, through our desires, and on our journeys?
Part one (~45 min.) of ONE ARM AND A LEG premiered on August 25 at the Theater for the New City. The full work (~90 min.) will be presented starting September 1 at HERE Arts Center. Inspired by Yasunari Kawabata’s “One Arm.” Conceived by Calla Videt. Written and devised by Calla Videt, James Morris, Jesse Barron, Ben Sampson, Melissa Goldman, Ilinca Radulian, and the Company.
