The ELNYA Community
ELNYA MEMBERS. You. Our members are young arts managers who subscribe to our listserv, post to our website, or attend our events. You don’t have to be a certain age to participate, but most of our members are in their 20s or 30s. You also don’t need to live or work in New York City, but most do. Membership is free–just sign up and join the conversation!
ACTION COMMITTEE. If you are interested in “getting more involved” this is where to start. This group of volunteers helps plan ELNYA events such as Creative Conversations and Happy Hours. We need ideas for events and speakers, leads on venues and sponsors, and help with registration and documentation. In addition to event planning, there are opportunities to practice fundraising, marketing, and partnership building skills. Ad hoc committees form within this group to plan and execute big initiatives. One-off opportunities to contribute are also available. Get involved by signing up for the Action Committee on our website–when you see something you want to contribute to jump on it! Got an idea for something new?–tell us about it, find some partners, and make it happen!
FELLOWS. Individuals who want to volunteer with ELNYA for a concentrated amount of time may apply to be ELNYA Fellows. Applications are generally accepted over the summer for a Fellow term of August – June. A new group of ELNYA Fellows will be selected by the Board and ABC/NY staff yearly. This cohort will be able to build a direct relationship with ABC/NY leadership, receive training, attend ELNYA Board meetings, and lead Action Committee members in event planning. A primary focus of the ELNYA Fellows is to bring a cohesive vision of programming content to the ELNYA season.
BOARD. This group of about a dozen people includes some of ELNYA’s founding members plus newer ELNYAns who are committed to planning the direction of the group, defining its process systems, setting goals, measuring achievement, and building fundraising and partnership initiatives. The Board meets every other month. Nominations for board positions occur periodically throughout the year. Let us know if you’re interested.
CHAIRS. Two board members work together to set the agenda and lead board meetings. One chair is usually a veteran and the other a newer member of our group. The chairs also lead recruitment of new members. They are selected for year-long terms by the other board members. The current board chairs are Lisa Lurie and Jessica Lantos.
STAFF LIAISON. As Program Coordinator for Arts & Business Council of New York, Stephanie Dockery connects ELNYA to other ABC/NY initiatives and programs. She is the point person for event logistics and supports the efforts of all ELNYA volunteers, the Action Committee, and the Board.
